Reiki leaders around the globe have signed on as supporters of Reiki Unified. Frans Stiene, William Rand, Pamela Miles, Johannes Reindl, Raven Keyes, Lourdes Gray, Reiki Rays, and the Trustees of the Northwest Reiki Gathering are a few of the people and organizations standing with us to stop regulation of Reiki practice.
Many of you have also offered your support. If you haven’t signed on yet, do join us.
Massachusetts legislation
The MA bills, An Act Regulating Alternative Healing Therapies (S.221 and H.350) remain with the Joint Committee on Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure. We are waiting for them to announce a date for a Public Hearing.
The change.org petition topped 10,000 signers last Friday. We’re aiming for 50,000 signatures to make it clear that we are a powerful force.
You’ve demonstrated that you care and we are so grateful. Each of us knows others who also care about access to Reiki. Ask two friends to sign the petition right now. If they ask one friend, we can reach 50,000.
It’s not hard to do but your action will make all the difference.
Oregon registry bill
Early May brought a shock. An Oregon legislator, Representative Salinas, introduced House Bill 2493 (https://olis.oregonlegislature.gov/liz/2021R1/Downloads/MeasureDocument/HB2493/Introduced) initiated by the mental health community, that seeks to register Reiki practitioners, hypnotherapists, life coaches, and all other unlicensed complementary practitioners. The bill enables the state to develop standards for the way Reiki is practiced and taught.
The bill, which was with the House Committee on Behavioral Health, was supposed to be tabled yet a public hearing was still held. One hundred thirty-nine individuals submitted written testimony which is available on Oregon’s website (https://olis.oregonlegislature.gov/liz/2021R1/Measures/Testimony/HB2493).
The bill will be held until the 2022 legislative session. Now is the time to build relationships with your representatives and their staff before a revised bill is submitted.
