Legislative Watch

Massachusetts:
S. 221 and H. 350, An Act Regulating Alternative Healing Therapies, continues to be with the Joint Committee on Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure. We are waiting for them to announce a public hearing date.  We will post this as soon as it is available so that you may send in your written opposition or sign up to testify.  All public hearings have been held remotely to date because of COVID.

Reiki Unified has drafted a position statement opposing the MA legislation which will be submitted as testimony for the public hearing.  It is supported by major US Reiki organizations and thought leaders.  A copy will be posted on the Reiki Unified website.

Minnesota:
H.F. No. 1275 and SF1074, MN Massage Therapy and Asian Bodywork Therapy Act.
A bill establishing licensure for massage therapy and Asian bodywork therapy, was filed February 8, 2021.
At this time, the bill does not affect Reiki as it is currently protected under146A.01, Minnesota’s Health Freedom Act.  However, it is being added to our watch list because there could be amendments to the bill.  Asian Bodywork Therapy was previously protected by Minnesota’s Health Freedom Act, but this bill will change that.
